KOS Compact Strand 1x19 Wire, Type 316 Stainless Steel

Compact strand wire features a construction similar to 1x19 wire, but it undergoes a cold deformation process that compacts the wires by passing them through a die or rollers. This process reduces the wire's diameter, increases the metallic cross-section of the strand, enhances the contact area between the wires, and creates a smoother, more uniform surface. As a result, compact strand wire is stronger and exhibits less stretch than conventional 1x19 wire. Special techniques are required to swage compact strand wire, and mechanical terminals need specific cones or wedges. It is commonly used for standing rigging in high-performance yachts and dinghies.
